A Body Type is a type of metabolism.  We can recognize your Body Type based on your  shape, because each Body Type has a its own special shape. But your Body Type has a more important reality. In fact, your shape is a signal of the type of metabolism you have.
Your Body Type comes from which of your four major glands is strongest in your metabolism. The body has four major glands: the thyroid gland, the adrenal glands, the pituitary gland and gonads or sex glands. According to which of these glands dominates your system, women can be either Thyroid Types, Adrenal Types, Gonadal Types or Pituitary Types. 
 Men have only three Body Types, because in men, the Adrenal and Gonadal Types are combined. So men can only be Thyroid Types, Adrenal Types or Pituitary Types.

In addition, each type puts on weight in different places, craves different foods and has a different energy pattern.   


A hormone is a chemical messenger in the body that is produced by endocrine glands in small amounts, released into the bloodstream, then carried to other parts of the body, where they cause specific changes in body function. The endocrine system can get damaged by over consumption of excess sugar, low calorie diets and exposure to toxic chemicals, which can disrupt or block glandular function.
Various body shapes can develop from improperly functioning glands or organs, which I will talk about below, but keep in mind that many people may express a combination of these body types.

The Ovary Shape
For women in childbearing years who are trying to conceive, having over-productive ovaries isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But for others, it can lead to saddlebags and lower stomach pooch.Like the Ovary shape, too much estrogen triggers the ovary shape; in fact, people can be both shapes in their lifetime. Many ovary body types turn into Ovary types after pregnancy due to the spike in estrogen, especially if the woman develops a Ovary problem during or shortly after having the baby.
Ovary types can also suffer heavy periods and develop facial hair and acne, especially during that time of the month, Berg says. Anything that is cyclic, such as headaches, PMS, bloating, and depression, can occur frequently with the ovary type, oftentimes during ovulation or about one week before a menstruation.
The gonads or ovaries are the dominant gland in Ovary types, which is why it is more common among women.
Ovary types tend to have a pear-shaped body shape with slender upper bodies. Weight gain occurs only on the lower buttocks and thighs and gives a very feminine and curvy shape.
Many Ovary types will have a big problem with cellulite accumulating around the upper thighs and
buttocks. If they try to lose weight with just any old low-fat low-calorie diet, it can be quite frustrating because weight will tend to come off easily from areas where there is not a problem, while the buttocks and thighs retain their cellulite and fatty deposits.
They often have a hormonal imbalance called “oestrogen dominance”, which means that there is too much oestrogen compared to progesterone.
Ovary type people tend to crave rich, creamy and spicy food. They are known to have strong energy fields that keep them going even when physically tired, which makes Ovary types people warm and nurturing.
Caring and emphatic, Ovary types put themselves at risk of stress and exhaustion when they frequently put others ahead of themselves.

Ovary Type Characteristics

Dominant gland: the gonads (ovaries).

Basic body shape: pear-shaped, with curvy rear and slender upper body.

Weight gain spots: mostly on the rear, to a lesser extent the hips and outer thighs.

Food cravings: rich, creamy and spicy food.

Energy pattern: very strong, even energy, able to keep going even when tired. 

Personality: warm and nurturing, with a tendency to become stressed when she doesn’t take care of herself too.

Exercises For The Ovary Body Type
Since most of the fat is superficial and around the legs and buttocks area, walking or biking is best. The Ovary body type should do a combination of both high- and low-intensity exercise.
Eating Pattern For The Ovary Body Type
These people crave chocolate and starches, especially around menstruation. It’s vitally important to maintain a protein and fat breakfast mode and to keep sugars low.
Consume lots of cruciferous vegetables, since they are anti-estrogenic
Consume an adequate amount of protein (50-75 grams) to help trigger fat-burning hormones. Make sure meats are hormone free, since environmental hormones can affect ovaries.

The ovarian hormones, like the adrenal hormones, are steroids and are built from cholesterol. This body type can tolerate more fat and cholesterol. Make sure fats are

hormone free (butter, cheese, cream, meats and milk)
The Ovary body type tends to have excessive bleeding during menstruation and loss of blood depletes iron. Consume red vegetables like beets, red apples and blood red oranges. The ovaries use iodine like the Ovary does, so it is also a good thing to add sea kelp, dulse or alfalfa to your diet.




The Thyroid Shape
Your thyroid resides in the front of your lower neck and is about 2 and a half inches wide. It makes hormones that control the metabolism in all your cells. Hence, thyroid types tend to get big all over, not in just one place. Many thyroid body types are triggered by the hormone estrogen. As estrogen becomes dominant, your thyroid slows down and over time, can become sluggish. Stubborn baby weight that doesn’t seem to go away after giving birth is often due to a spike in estrogen, coupled with thyroid malfunction.
What it means: Besides weight struggles, those with a thyroid body type also often suffer hair loss, saggy skin under the arms, ridged nails, and loss of the outer eyebrows, Berg says. “Thyroid types also tend to reach for simple carbs, such as bread, for quick energy to rev their sluggish metabolism.” You can get tested for thyroid disorders, but Berg says that problems don’t always show up on blood tests until the person is already in an advanced state.

Thyroid Type Characteristics
Dominant gland: the thyroid gland.

Basic body shape: long-limbed, fine-boned, high waist, oval or long face.

Weight gain spots: between shoulders and knees, including thighs, upper hips, and round waist.

Food cravings: sweets, starches, caffeine. 

Energy pattern: up and down: energetic for a while, with a tendency to “crash.”

Personality: creative, lively, full of energy when “up.”  Tendency to be irritable or depressed when tired or stressed.

Needs: The T-type program helps T-types reduce cravings for sweets while increasing energy and endurance.


Thyroid  Body Type Triggers

Exercises For The Thyroid Body Type
Swimming and low impact aerobics. Twenty to thirty minute workouts might be best, two or three times a week. Walking is the most natural to this body type and may be done every day. Also a rebounder is good because it gets the lymphatic system working.
 
Many of this body type find walking is ideal. An indoor exercise Glider is a wonderful way to get a walking workout each day no matter what the weather. This type doesn't need to go for the strenuous workout because it often will lead to fatigue and energy swings.

Eating Pattern For The Thyroid Body Type
People with a Thyroid body type crave sugar because of the sluggishness of fuel processing. It is important for these people to eat between meals (protein - raw nuts and seeds) to maintain enough fuel so that blood sugars stay even
The thyroid is inhibited by estrogen, so decreasing exposure to estrogen will help this situation - this includes soy products, since soy is estrogenic
Consume lots of non-cruciferous vegetables, as cruciferous vegetables tend to deplete iodine (or add some sea kelp, dulse, or alfalfa).
Consume 25 grams of protein per day. The metabolic rate is slow and it can’t tolerate large


amounts of protein.
The sluggish thyroid can’t break down fat properly and many times these people have high cholesterol. Go light on fats.
The Thyroid body type needs iodine. However, the diet recommended has enough iodine (in yogurt, eggs, meat, fruits and cheese). If you are concerned, consume sea kelp, dulse, or alfalfa.

The Adrenal Shape
Our adrenal glands sit on the kidneys and deal with stress. When too much stress builds up, your fight-or-flight response kicks in, triggering the hormone cortisol to build up fat around your most vital organs—which are located in your midsection.
Constant stress leads to poor sleep patterns, causing worry, excessive thinking, brain fog, poor memory, and weight gain, he says. Most growth hormone is released at night, and this hormone regulates fat burn. Trying to lose weight can actually cause you to add pounds since conventional diet programs that call for drastically cutting calories and overtraining with exhaustive workouts only further stress your body. Overtime, as adrenal fatigue continues, tolerance to stress dives even lower and patience with others wears thing. These types tend to be edgy and irritable, and oftentimes, others get on their nerves.

Adrenal Type Characteristics

Dominant gland: the adrenal glands.

Basic body shape: strong-looking, bigger above the waist than below, large breasts, slim hips.



Weight gain spots: mostly above the waist: upper back, breasts, stomach, with hips and legs remaining shapely.

Food cravings: salty foods, fats, alcohol.

Energy pattern: steady energy all day, falling off in the evening.

Personality: friendly, practical and outgoing. Slow to get angry, but with a temper when provoked.

Needs: The A-type program helps A-types lose stomach fat while becoming livelier and more flexible

Adrenal  Body Type Triggers
Adrenal body types tend to crave fatty and salty foods due to the fact that these foods provide the most stimulation to the adrenal glands. When too much of these types of foods are consumed, the adrenals can become over stimulated, which can lead to weight gain. To combat this, adrenal body types should consume foods that are low in salt and fat, such as fresh fruit, low fat dairy products and whole grain carbohydrates.

If you are an adrenal body type this would describe you:
  • Upper body is dominant, strong upper body, women have a large chest
  • If there is a belly it tends to be high, under the chest
  • Tendency to be muscular and physically strong
  • A square type appearance
  • Sociable, tolerant, dominating and warm
  • Stable energy
  • You have a tendency towards high cholesterol, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease 
Exercises For The Adrenal Body Type
The adrenal gland is already stressed and exercise will put it into overwhelm. Do light, low-pulse-rate, low-intensity exercise (aerobic). Once the adrenals are stronger, then you can add some anaerobic exercise.
Eating Pattern For The Adrenal Body Type
The Adrenal type is dumping lots of stored sugar in to the bloodstream or is eating up
muscles and turning proteins into sugar. To prevent this, keep protein in the body with small frequent meals - especially between main meals.
Because the Adrenal type is losing the mineral potassium, the pH of their blood often becomes excessively alkaline. A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in water before bed is recommended, as this helps stabilize blood pH and potassium (potassium has a relaxing effect)

Consume lots of vegetables with vitamin C - leafy greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, bell peppers, parsley, etc.

Consume more protein (50-75 grams) and fat , as this body type needs to replace the destruction of body proteins (muscles).

Adrenal hormones are made from cholesterol. When people experience stress or are sick, their bodies need more cholesterol and fat to build hormones - this is why you might crave fats when you are sick or stressed. Ovary The ovarian hormones, like the adrenal hormones, are steroids and are built from cholesterol.


This body type is losing certain minerals - calcium, potassium and sometimes sodium, depending on what’s happening with the adrenals. Consume high-potassium and high- calcium foods - leafy greens are best. If you crave salt, eat some sea salt.


The Liver Type
The liver is the largest organ of the body weighing in at 3-pounds, and located under your right rib cage. It is a major organ for filtration and detoxification. Some of its other hundreds of functions are digestion, sugar storage and regulation, immune system responses, and important components of the blood. However, if the liver becomes damaged or weak, it can cause a “pot belly”, due to an accumulation of fluid, not fat. There may be appearance of a roll of fat or bulging just below the rib cage.
A liver type will often crave the foods that will stress the liver even more, like fatty/fried foods, chocolate or alcohol., so they often have higher cholesterol and blood pressure levels. These body types typically have thin legs and a
protruding belly (called ascites), which is basically the liver leaking a plasma-like fluid into a sac just above the intestines. Because a liver type has this belly pooch, people often equate them to having a fat stomach, but in reality, they actually have low body fat. Even if the person is 300 pounds, when most that weight in their belly, a lot of it could be fluid. People always incorrectly assume that all weight is equated to fat, when that isn’t necessarily so.
In healthy individuals, blood sugar naturally rises in the morning because of natural hormonal changes, but after fasting overnight, liver types inevitably wake up with low blood sugar and can be irritable. They also have digestive problems such as gas and heartburn after they eat because of their sluggish digestive juices, which means food is not breaking down thoroughly, and if bile isn’t released, the person will feel unsatisfied and crave carbs for energy.
Liver Body Type Triggers
If you have Liver Body Type, the triggers are junk foods, alcohol, fried foods and soft drinks, and these cravings just cause you to gain more and more weight.  Consumption of vegetables & fruits is a must, along with detoxing the liver.

Exercises For The Liver Body Type
When you’re planning your exercise routine, make sure it incorporates plenty of cardio like

jogging, using an elliptical machine, and walking fast are all examples of aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise activates your immune system, helps your heart pump blood more efficiently, and increases your stamina over time.
Research is showing that Interval Training (Anaerobic) is the best way to condition your heart and burn fat. So this means instead of jogging, walk steadily for an hour and alternate short bursts of high-intensity exercise with gentle recovery periods. This type of exercise, also known as burst training, can dramatically improve your cardiovascular fitness and fat-burning capabilities.
Rounding out your exercise program with a strength training routine will ensure that you're really optimizing the possible health benefits of a regular exercise program.
Core strengthening exercises are also a great idea. Your body has 29 core muscles located mostly in your back, abdomen and pelvis. This group of muscles provides the foundation for movement throughout your entire body, and strengthening them can help protect and support your back, make your spine and body less prone to injury and help you gain greater balance and stability. Exercise programs like Pilates and yoga are another good idea for strengthening core muscles.
Eating Pattern For The Liver Body Type
Because the liver regulates growth hormone and IGF, both of which have a function of controlling blood sugars between meals, it’s best to eat three meals but not in between. A good breakfast with protein (as opposed to skipping it) is the most important of all meals
The Liver type usually has digestive troubles. Consuming fermented foods, such as pickles, sauerkraut, low-fat plain yogurt and low-fat cheese, is recommended.
